The Benefits of Knowledge
Abu Musa (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "The guidance and knowledge with which Allah has sent me are like abundant rain which fell on a land. A fertile part of it absorbed the water and brought forth profuse herbage and pasture; and solid ground patches which retained the water by which Allah has benefited people, who drank from it, irrigated their crops and sowed their seeds; and another sandy plane which could neither retain the water nor produce herbage. Such is the similitude of the person who becomes well-versed in the religion of Allah and receives benefit from the Message entrusted to me by Allah, so he himself has learned and taught it to others; such is also the similitude of the person who has stubbornly and ignorantly rejected Allah's Guidance with which I have been sent.'' (BUKHAARI, MUSLIM)

Ibn A’bbaas reported that Nabi (saw) said “When you pass by the meadows of Paradise indulge freely in it!” They said ‘Rasool Allah! What are the meadows of Paradise?’ He said “The circles of I’lm” (TABARAANI in ‘Al Mu’jam al Kabeer’)

Abu Hurayrah reported that Nabi (saw) said “Never do a people gather in one of the houses of Allah reciting the Book of Allah and studying it between them except that sakeenah descends upon them and rahmah enshrouds them the angels throng around them and Allah mentions them to those who are with Him.” (MUSLIM, ABU DAWOOD)

Jaabir bin A’bdullah reported An Ansari woman said to Allah's Apostle, "O Allah's Apostle! Shall I make something for you to sit on, as I have a slave who is a carpenter?" He replied, "If you wish." So, she got a pulpit made for him. When it was Friday the Prophet sat on that pulpit. The date-palm stem near which the Prophet used to deliver his sermons cried so much so that it was about to burst. The Prophet came down from the pulpit to the stem and embraced it and it started groaning like a child being persuaded to stop crying and then it stopped crying. The Prophet said,"It has cried because of (missing) what it use to hear of the religious knowledge." (BUKHAARI [vol.3 no.308])

The detailed understanding of the Quran and thus also of Islam is accessible to us once we engage in aquiring the Islamic knowledge, Allah (swt) says “…He explains the ayaat in detail for people who have knowledge [liqawmin ya’lamoon]” (Yoonus 10:5)

Imaam Maalik said that it had reached him that Luqmaan al Hakeem [The Wise] said to his son “O son sit with the u’lemaa’ and keep close to them. Allah gives life to the hearts with the light of hikmah as Allah gives life to the dead earth with the abundant rain of the sky.” (MAALIK in ‘al Muwatta’ kitaabul I’lm [vol.2 no.1889])
