Factors Preventing Knowledge

1 A’qeedah

“…Whoever rejects Taaghoot and believes in Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allah is Sami’un A’leem. Allah is the Wali of those who believe. He brings them out from darkness into light. But as for those who disbelieve, their awliyaa’ are Taaghoot, they bring them out from light into darkness. Those are the dwellers of the Fire, and they will abide therein forever.” (al Baqarah 2:256-257)

2 Arrogance [Takabbur]

“I shall turn away from My ayaat those who behave arrogantly on the earth without right and if they see all the ayaat they will not believe in them. And if they see the right way they will not adopt it as the way, but if they see the way of error, they will adopt that way, that is because they have rejected Our ayaat and were heedless (ghaafileen).” (al A’raaf 7:146) and “But those who reject Our ayaat and treat them with arrogance [wastakbaroo], they are the dwellers of the Fire they will abide therein forever.” (al A’raaf 7:36) This last ayah indicates that arrogance will close the doors to knowledge of a’qeedah and repentance because it has ended up in eternal Hellfire.

3 Desires [Ahwaa’]

“Nay, but those who do wrong follow their own lusts without knowledge. Who is able to guide him whom Allah hath bent astray? For such there are no helpers.” (ar Room 30:29) “Have you seen him who has taken for his god (ilaah) his own desires (hawaa), and Allah knowing (him as such) left him astray, and sealed his hearing and his heart, and put a cover on his sight. Who then will guide him after Allah? Will you not then remember?” (al Jaathiyah 45:23)

4 Sins

Abu Hurayrah “When the believer sins a black spot is put on his heart. If he repents, refrains and seeks forgiveness his heart is cleaned from it. If he sins again it increases until it takes over his heart. That rusting is mentioned by Allah, the Most High, in His book – “Nay, but on their hearts is the rusting for that which they have earned (Mutafiffeen :14)”

5 Pre-occupation with the Dunyaa

Allah (swt) says “Verily those who hope not for their meeting with Us but are pleased with the life of this world and those who are heedless of Our ayaat, those their abode will be the Fire because of what they used to earn” (Yoonus 10:7-8)

6 Forgetting Yawmil Qiyaamah and engaging in transgression

Allah (swt) says “…So We leave those who expect not their meeting with Us in their excesses [tughyaanihim] wandering blidly in distraction [ya’mahoon]” (Yoonus 10:11)
